IHD issues Turkey report on human right violations for 2019

IHD said that there were 440 violations of right to life, 447 torture and ill-treatment violations in 2019. IHD co-chair Öztürk Türkdoğan said that most of the violations were caused by the Kurdish problem.

Grup Yorum member Gökçek dies after ending death fast

Ibrahim Gökçek, bassist of the socialist band Grup Yorum, led a death fast protest for 323 days in protest at the state repression against his group. With the protest, the 39-year-old musician demanded the lifting of the concert ban of Grup Yorum, an end to the police raids against the Idil cultural centre, the release of all imprisoned band members and the cessation of all legal proceedings.

Digital violence against women increases during COVID-19

The ‘We Will Stop Femicide Platform’ (KCDP) and the Women’s Assemblies issued their April 2020 Application Report. The report stated that the number of women who applied for support denouncing the violence they were exposed to has increased in April. Applications were made mostly from Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir, Mersin, Adana, Antalya and Kocaeli.

PEC: At least 55 journalists died of coronavirus in 23 countries

On the occasion of Press Freedom Day on 3 May, the Press Emblem Campaign (PEC) condemned the numerous press freedom violations that have occurred in several countries since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. In addition, protection measures for the media have often been insufficient and at least 55 journalists in 23 countries have died from the coronavirus since 1 March, PEC said.

Amnesty International: Turkey continues crackdown on opponents in 2019

Amnesty International said in its annual report that the Turkish government’s campaign against the opposition and its critics continued in 2019 despite the end of the two-year state of emergency. “Thousands of people have been held in pretrial detention for prolonged periods, often without any credible evidence that they committed crimes recognized under international law,” said Amnesty International in its report, and stressed that there are severe restrictions on the right to freedom of expression and peaceful assembly.

The Kurdish Center for Human Rights was established in Geneva in 2000, according to the Suisse civil law. In response to the genocide, war crimes and human rights violations occurring across the Kurdish regions of Turkey, Iraq, Iran, Syria.

The KCHR, as a non-profit organization of social utility, was born from the need to  inform the European and Swiss people and the OHCHR on human rights violations against the Kurds via seminars and other dialogue platforms and to attend their meetings; to establish a dialogue with NGO’s, civil movements, associations, government and civil institutions..
