The “Democracy and Resolution” announcement made at Newroz in Diyarbakır on 21 March 2013 signified the publizingof an ongoing process of dialoguethat had begun in 2012 with the aim of finding a lasting peace. The text of an accord, that was to pave the way for a more transparent negotiation, was shared with public opinion in the presence of government officials and the Imrali Delegation on 28 February 2015.
Turkish police have tortured and otherwise ill-treated individuals in their custody after emergency decrees removed crucial safeguards in the wake of a failed coup attempt in July, 2016, Human Rights Watch said in a report released today.
IHD Diyarbakir Branch has released the report on human rights violations committed in the Kurdish region of Turkey during the past one year. Accordingly, 1,552 people -who include soldiers, police, village guards, militants and civilians- died in the Kurdish cities during the period from July 24, 2015 to July 24, 2016. 1,683 others were wounded.

Round-the-clock curfews and blockades implemented in Nusaybin and a number of cities located the region of since August 2015 have caused a huge devastation and mass forced migration as well as widespread rights
violations including “right to live”.
A group of United Nations human rights experts urged the Turkish Government to uphold its obligations under international human rights law, even in the current time of declared emergency following an attempted coup.
