Coalition for Women in Journalism condemns arrest of colleagues

The Coalition for Women in Journalism, a global solidarity group, condemned the arrest of journalists Ruken Demir and Melike Aydın.

The Coalition For Women In Journalism, a global solidarity group, issued a written statement today to condemn the arrest of MA journalist Ruken Demir and JIN NEWS journalist Melike Aydın in Izmir.

The statement said: “Press freedom in Turkey and the approach to women is to be followed very closely. We condemn all kind of restriction on journalism, particularly the restriction and behaviour towards women journalists.

We urge Turkey to ensure freedom of expression rather than to repress journalists who are doing their work.”

The Kurdish Center for Human Rights was established in Geneva in 2000, according to the Suisse civil law. In response to the genocide, war crimes and human rights violations occurring across the Kurdish regions of Turkey, Iraq, Iran, Syria.

The KCHR, as a non-profit organization of social utility, was born from the need to  inform the European and Swiss people and the OHCHR on human rights violations against the Kurds via seminars and other dialogue platforms and to attend their meetings; to establish a dialogue with NGO’s, civil movements, associations, government and civil institutions..
