Torture and impunity are increasing in Van

The government’s policy of impunity towards torturers bears as a consequence an increase in the cases of torture in Van in recent years. As a tragic irony, the tortured person is often sued instead of the torturer.

While the Special Rapporteur on torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment, in his report on the 2016 mission to Turkey (A/HRC/37/50/Add.1), appealed the Turkish authorities to publicly reinforce its zero tolerance policy on torture, the Government. of Turkey has developed a racist Zero Tolerance Policy towards Kurdish people.

Several detained in major operation against the HDP

In Turkey, arrest warrant has been issued for 82 people in 7 cities in connection with the Kobanê protests in October 2014. The mayor of Kars, Ayhan Bilgen and former MP Sirri Süreyya Önder have also been detained.

After the failed coup attempt of 15 July 2016, the Turkish government declared a state of emergency. It was renewed every three months for a total period of two years. The state of emergency has been applied without any legal framework and has been transformed into an instrument of authoritarian repression against opposition groups in society.

Dans le cadre de sa 45e session, le Conseil des droits de l’homme de l’ONU s’est penché sur le rapport de la Commission d’enquête indépendante internationale sur la Syrie, publié la semaine dernière. À cette occasion, plusieurs États membres ont demandé que les crimes de guerre et les crimes contre l’humanité commis en Syrie soient jugés par la Cour pénale internationale.

About us

The Kurdish Center for Human Rights was established in Geneva in 2000, according to the Suisse civil law. In response to the genocide, war crimes and human rights violations occurring across the Kurdish regions of Turkey, Iraq, Iran, Syria.

The KCHR, as a non-profit organization of social utility, was born from the need to  inform the European and Swiss people and the OHCHR on human rights violations against the Kurds via seminars and other dialogue platforms and to attend their meetings; to establish a dialogue with NGO’s, civil movements, associations, government and civil institutions..
