International solidarity with lawyers Timtik and Ünsal

365 lawyers from many countries signed a petition signed to the Supreme Court for jailed lawyers Ebru Timtik and Aytaş Ünsal who are on death fast. Family of Timtik appeal on people to speak out for the two lawyers.

Murat Yılmaz, chair of the Contemporary Lawyers Association (ÇHD) Ankara Branch, reminded that two of its members, lawyers Ebru Timtik and Aytaş Ünsal, are on death fast since 5 April, International Lawyers Day.

Yılmaz emphasized that Timtik and Ünsal are demanding the right to a fair trial and have reached a critical stage in the death fast.

Lawyers Ebru Timtik and Aytaç Ünsal have been sentenced to a total of 159 years and 2 months in prison. Timtik is on her 153rd day of death fast, while Unsal is on his 122nd day.

International Support

Yılmaz underlined that 365 lawyers from around the world have signed a petition for the two colleagues on death fast. Lawyers from the US, Germany, Austria, Belgium, Benin, Bulgaria, Democratic Republic of Congo, France, Haiti, India, Netherlands, England, Spain, Switzerland, Italy, Japan, Catalonia, Lebanon, Poland, Romania and Togo have all signed the petition to be delivered to the Supreme Court.

Yılmaz said: “The lawyers demand the respect of the right to a fair trial in the petition sent to the 16th Criminal Chamber of the Supreme Court of Appeals.”

The family of Ebru Timtik said that she is now just 42 kilos and her health is getting worse.

In a written statement the family reminded that Timtik has been defending and giving voice to the poor and the oppressed and added: “Ebru is now resisting with her body. Her health is getting worse. She is waiting for everyone’s support. Don’t remain silent! What Ebru and her colleague are demanding is the right to a fair trial.”
