CHP: 1677 people died in prison in the last ten years

Republican’s People Party CHP deputy, Gürkut Acar had asked the minister of justice a specific question on the issue. Minister Sadullah Ergin answered that in the last 10 years the number of prisoners who died in prison was 1677.

In 2012, so far, 52 people have died while in prison.

It is known that there are at least 204 prisoners in need of urgent care.

Here the full detail of prisoners who died in jail since 2002:

  • in 2002, 89 prisoners
  • in 2003, 163 prisoners
  • in 2004, 54 prisoners
  • in 2005, 59 prisoners
  • in 2006, 157 prisoners
  • in 2007, 176 prisoners
  • in 2008, 211 prisoners
  • in 2009, 196 prisoners
  • in 2010, 252 prisoners
  • in 2011, 268 prisoners
  • in 2012, 52 prisoners
