The government’s policy of impunity towards torturers bears as a consequence an increase in the cases of torture in Van in recent years. As a tragic irony, the tortured person is often sued instead of the torturer.
In Turkey, arrest warrant has been issued for 82 people in 7 cities in connection with the Kobanê protests in October 2014. The mayor of Kars, Ayhan Bilgen and former MP Sirri Süreyya Önder have also been detained.

Zanko Ahmadi, Zanest Hassannejad, and Soroush Makari were three Kurdish Kolbars killed by the Iranian border guards in the Bajar area of Sardasht, On Monday morning, September 14,2020. Two days later, in an interview with the Iranian state media, the West Azarbaijan border commander described the killed Kolbars as a “border trespasser and supported the killing of these individuals by forces under his command.

The human rights situation in parts of north, northwest and northeast Syria under the control of Turkish forces and Turkish-affiliated armed groups is grim, with violence and criminality rife, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet warned on Friday.

The UN Syrian Commission of Inquiry said that the FSA carries out war crimes under Turkish control, including abductions, disappearances, gender-based violence in Afrin and Serêkaniyê. Full 25page Report
Syrians continue to be killed, suffer severe hardships and grave rights violations, despite a relative reduction in largescale hostilities since the 5 March ceasefire, according to the latest findings of the UN Syrian Commission of Inquiry.
UN Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances says most of its reccomendations were ignored by Turkey where a culture of impunity prevails.
