Operations and Attacks in Southeast…

Ministry of National Defense made a declaration on August 9, 2019 and announced that 2 soldiers got wounded due to an attack to a base in Afrin.

Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…
It is learned from the news coverage of August 10, 2019 that prisoners in Maras Türkoglu T Type Prison were subjected to physical violence of tha wardens on August 8, 2019.

It is learned from the news coverage of August 9, 2019 that 14 prisoners in Beycuma M Type Closed Prison were taken to hospital due to food poisoning.

Police Intervention Against “I Want My Job Back” Protest in Ankara…
The police intervened the press declaration of public labourers who had been dismissed by a state of emergency decree and have been struggling 1009 days to regain their jobs, intended to be held in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on August 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, and 14, 2019 at 13.30, and at 18.00.

It was reported that during police intervention against the press declaration which was planned to be held at 13.30 on August 9, 2019, 2 people (Ilker Isik and Nazan Bozkurt) and at 18.00 2 people (Alev Sahin and Nazan Bozkurt) were detained.

It was reported that during police intervention against the press declaration which was planned to be held at 13.30 on August 10, 2019, 2 people (Alev Sahin and Ilker Isik) and at 18.00 2 people (Alev Sahin and Merve Demirel) were detained.

It was reported that during police intervention against the press declaration which was planned to be held at 13.30 on August 11, 2019, 2 people (Merve Demirel and Nazan Bozkurt) and at 18.00 2 people (Ilker Isik and Nazan Bozkurt) were detained.

It was reported that during police intervention against the press declaration which was planned to be held at 13.30 on August 12, 2019, 2 people (Mehmet Dersulu and Nazan Bozkurt) and at 18.00 2 people (Mehmet Dersulu and Acun Karadag) were detained.

It was reported that during police intervention against the press declaration which was planned to be held at 13.30 on August 13, 2019, 2 people (Mehmet Dersulu and Mahmut Konuk) and at 18.00 3 people (Acun Karadag, Nazan Bozkurt and Ipek Moral) were detained.

It was reported that during police intervention against the press declaration which was planned to be held at 13.30 on August 14, 2019, 2 people (Mehmet Dersulu and Nazan Bozkurt) and at 18.00 2 people (Acun Karadag and Nazan Bozkurt and Ipek Moral) were detained.

Thus in total 25 people were detained due to press declaration intended to be held in Yüksel Street on August 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, and 14, 2019. It is learned detained people were released on the same days they were detained.

Police Intervention Against a Protest in Ankara…
The police intervened into the protestors in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on August 12, 2019, who rally to regain their jobs from which they had been dismissed by state of emergency decrees, and detained 2 people (Mahmut Konuk and Eser Budak). It is learned that 2 people were released the same day.

Police Intervention Against a Protest in Istanbul…
Nursel Tanriverdi and Selvi Polat, who make a sit-in protest at Bakirköy Square on August 12, 2019, to regain their jobs from which they had been dismissed by state of emergency decrees is detained by the police intervening the protest. It is learned that Nursel Tanriverdi and Selvi Polat were released after statement procedures on the same day.

Prevention of Saturday Mothers’ Protest in Istanbul…
Police obstructed all the streets around Galatasaray Square in Istanbul to prevent Saturday Mothers who rally every Saturday for 23 years in the same place to gather for the 750th time on August 10, 2019. Upon police prevention, the group including representatives of political parties, human rights defenders and artists along with families of disappeared people held a press declaration on the street of Human Rights Association (IHD) Istanbul office.

Prevention of Human Rights Defenders’ Event in Istanbul…
“F sit-in”, which is organized for the 385th time by Human Rights Association (IHD) Istanbul Branch Prison Watch Committee, to demand release of ill prisoners, on August 10, 2019, is prevented by the police. The police obstructed all the streets around Galatasaray Square. Human rights defenders made the press declaration in front of IHD Istanbul office.

Arrest of People Who Were Kidnapped in Ankara…
It is learned that, Yasin Ugan, Özgür Kaya, Salim Zeybek and Erkan Irmak, all public employees dismissed by state of emergency decrees, who were abducted in February 2019, and who were then reported to be “found with backpacks and detained during a routine general information check near Ankara Security Directorate building on July 28, 2019 and were kept under custody at Ankara Police Directorate Anti-Terror Department”, are arrested on August 10, 2019.

Yasin Ugan and Özgür Kaya were abducted on February 13, 2019, Erkan Irmak was abducted on February 16, 2019, and Salim Zeybek was abducted on February 25, 2019 by unknown people with black vehicles known as “Transporter” in Ankara.

Arrested Executives of HDP in Mus…

People’s Democratic Party Mus provincial co-chairs Ferhat Çaki and Muhlise Karagüzel, 2 of 3 people who were detained in house raids in Mus on August 9, 2019 are arrested on August 10, 2019. 1 person (Kutbettin Çelik) is released on judicial control conditions.

Arrested People in Diyarbakir…
3 people who were detained in house raids in Baglar district of Diyarbakir on August 9, 2019 are arrested on the charges of ‘being an illegal organisation member’ and ‘aiding an illegal organisation’ on August 13, 2019. The names of arrested people are: Rabia Akgün (4 months’ pregnant), Mehmet Emin Akgün and 1 more person.

Detained People in Istanbul…
On August 10, 2019, 2 people (Hediye Balkiz and Mehmet Balkiz) arrving Turkey form Germany are detained at Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen Airport. It is reported that the reason of detention is ‘social media posts’.

Suspended City Council Members…
It is learned from the news coverage of August 10, 2019 that, Medeni Özer, Van’s Edremit district city council member and Faruk Demir, Çaldiran district council member are suspended by the Ministry of Interior on the grounds of ‘investigations against them’.

Ban of an Event in Erzrum…
It is learned from the news coverage of August 11, 2019 that, Tekman Villages Social, Cultural and Solidarity Association’s eid event on August 13, 2019 in Erzurum’s Tekman district is banned by the sub-governorate on the grounds of security reasons.

Special Security Zone in Hakkari…
Hakkari Governorate made a declaration on August 14, 2109 and announced 5 areas in central, Çukurca, Yüksekova and Derecik districts as special security zones for 15 days as of August 15, 2019 until July 29, 2019.

The KCHR, as a non-profit organization of social utility, was born from the need to  inform the European and Swiss people and the OHCHR on human rights violations against the Kurds via seminars and other dialogue platforms and to attend their meetings; to establish a dialogue with NGO’s, civil movements, associations, government and civil institutions..
