Raimondi: Isolation of Öcalan is a violation of his right

Posted on January 26, 2017July 10, 2019 By Centre Kurde Genève 1 Comment on Raimondi: Isolation of Öcalan is a violation of his right

The ECHR President Guido Raimondi stated that the isolation of Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan violates the European Convention on Human Rights.

Following the annual press conference of the European Court of Human Rights, President Guido Raimondi answered a journalist’s question on the prevention of Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan from meeting with his lawyers over the past 5 years.

Raimondi pointed out that the isolation of Öcalan and prevention of his letter correspondence violate the 34th article of the European Convention on Human Rights.

Journalists also raised the issue of the ECHR’s lack of response to the applications filed to the Court during the Turkish state’s genocidal attacks against Kurdish population in North Kurdistan.
