Juvenile Prisons Must Be Banned Initiative called attention to the ongoing right violations and ill-treatment of child prisoners, stating that there are currently a total of 2200 children jailed in Turkey and North Kurdistan.
Juvenile Prisons Must Be Banned Initiative held a press conference at IHD (Human Rights Association) headquarters in Ankara with the participation of IHD executives and representatives of some non-governmental organizations.
Speaking here, IHD member Hüseyin Küçük said that there are a total of 2200 children in Turkey and North Kurdistan prisons, among whom 542 are convicted and 1658 on remand.
Küçük stated that 27 thousand signatures have been collected in the campaign launched by the Initiative, and that these would be submitted to the General Directorate of Prisons and Detention Houses.
