The Amed Bar Association has been awarded the 2018 Ludovic Trarieux Jury Prize for their efforts for human rights, their actions and the pain it has suffered.
The Jury Prize in the 2018 International Ludovic Trarieux Human Rights Prize was awarded to the Amed Bar Association.
The Amed Bar Association was nominated and backed by several bodies like the Bordeaux, Paris, Rome, Luxembourg and Berlin Bar Associations Human Rights Institutions and the International Lawyers Union.
The Prize has been awarded since 1984 in the name of Trarieux, one of the lawyers in the Dreyfus Case. Nelson Mandela was awarded this prize in 1985 before he became the Head of State in South Africa.
The statement for the prize stressed that Tahir Elci, who was murdered by the 4 Pillared Minaret in Surici, Amed on November 28, 2015, had served as the President of the Amed Bar Association.
The 2018 International Ludovic Trarieux Human Rights Prize was awarded to imprisoned Iranian lawyer Nesrin Sotudeh.
The 2012 International Ludovic Trarieux Human Rights Prize had been awarded to former Human Rights Association (IHD) administrator Muharrem Erbey who was under arrest from the KCK Amed main case. Tahir Elci and Erbey’s wife had received the award as he was in prison at the time.
