A Child-Offender Executed at Orumiyeh Central Prison

Posted on August 20, 2020August 21, 2020 By Centre Kurde Genève

Child offender Arsalan Yassini who was arrested at the age of 17 on the charge of “premeditated murder” and sentenced to “retribution”(execution), was executed at the Orumiyeh Central Prison on August 17.

The prisoner was transferred to solitary confinement a day earlier for the enforcement of execution sentence. “Arsalan Yassini, born in 1990 in Naqadeh, was arrested and sentenced to death when he was under 18 years of age for the murder of two of his relatives.”, an informed source told the Kurdistan Human Rights Network.

According to this source, this prison had spent some time at Orumiyeh Correctional Centre. This child-offender was executed despite the fact that the Islamic Republic of Iran is one of the signatories of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, which has emphasized the prohibition of death sentence and long term imprisonment sentence for children. Iran has continued to execute child offenders in recent years and has the highest number of child executions in the world.
