Holding Muharram Mourning Ceremonies at Prison Despite Doctor’s Warnings

Posted on August 29, 2020September 1, 2020 By admin

Despite the widespread outbreak of the coronavirus in the women’s ward of Orumiyeh Central Prison and the transfer of several prisoners with the virus symptoms to the hospital, a mass mourning ceremony is being held in this prison daily by order of prison officials.

“By the order of the officials of Orumiyeh Central Prison, mourning ceremonies are being held every day in the prison yard wards and Hosseiniyah [congregation hall] of this prison. During the day, prisoners hold mass mourning ceremonies for several hours in different wards, and the evening ceremonies are held in the presence of hundreds of prisoners from different wards in the Central Hosseiniyah”, a reliable source in Orumieh told the Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN).

Muharram mourning ceremonies are being held in this Prison even though least four prisoners – Fatemeh Alizadeh, Seifeddin Bamoradi, Hassan Javadi and Fariq Mohammadi- have died since the outbreak of the Coronavirus in this prison.
