Women’s organisations launch campaign for political prisoners

Free Women’s Movement (TJA), Kurdish Women’s Movement – Europe (TJK-E), International Women’s Alliance (IWA), Women Democratic Front Pakistan (WDF), Ruba odeh Palestine, Abya Yala Feminists, National Front for Egyptian Women, Moroccan Association for Progressive Women, Revolutionary Association of the Women of Afghanistan RAWA, Collective of Support for Women Prisoners in Aragon (CAMPA) launched a campaign called ‘Solidarity keeps us alive’ to demand the release of political prisoners during the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.

The press conferece launching the campaign was held at the Democratic Kurdish Community Center in Cologne, Germany.

Besime Konca on behalf of TJK-E read the statement in Kurmanci, Ronak Fadavi in Sorani, Yıldız Filmci in Turkish and Yvonne Heine in German.

Besime Konca from TJK-E noted that the campaign has been organised by many women’s organizations and movements in Pakistan, Afghanistan, Latin America and Spain.

The campaign has been launched to demand the freedom of all political prisoners who are in jail in violation of the freedom of thought. Konca said that various activities will be carried out jointly within the scope of the campaign.

The demands of the “Solidarity keeps us alive” campaign are as follows:

  1. Allowing contact between prisoners, especially women, and their relatives and supporters, and making the situation and thoughts of prisoners visible to the public;
  2. Supporting prisoners in all countries and initiate petition campaigns against governments’ prison policies.
  3. Requesting the United Nations, the Committee for the Prevention of Torture (CPT) and similar organizations that they exert political and diplomatic pressure on these countries, demanding the immediate release of all political prisoners.
